5.Jesse Floyd Jones, born 1905 in Pickens Co, Ga.
Died: Sept.9,1968 in Naples, Collier Co, Fl.

NOTE:  There is a strong possibility that Mary Stepp was related to the families of Colby Stepp, George Chappell Stepp, b.Dahlonega Lumpkin Co, Ga.who  married Judah McCay in Fannin Co..,
Aaron Nathan Stepp,b 1840, who married Jane Vestal May 24,1868 Fannin Co, Ga.
James Stepp, who married Mary Godfrey 1881 in Fannin Co.
William Stepp Sr.
William Stepp Jr. who married Missoura Patterson Aug.26, 1897 Fannin Co, Ga
John Stepp, b.abt.1819/1820 Ga.(parents b. NC), married Caroline Mincey(?)
Family listed in 1880 Lumpkin Co, Ga. Census.. Shoal Creek district.
Thomas Stepp, b.
Colby Stepp, b1816 SC,d.1856, married Temperance Mincey
All of these families are related and lived in Lumpkin and Fannin Counties at one time or the other.I believe at some point Suffrona PATTON ( whom I believe to be the mother of Mary Cathrine Stepp) married into the family and she is listed in the 1880 Lumpkin Co, Ga. census, Davis district. as follows.

1880 Davis District, household 186  189
Suffrona Stepp, age 29,b Ga.keeps house, widow, parents from NC
James Stepp, age 21, son, b. Tn, single, works in gold mines.
Mary Ann Stepp, age 8, b.abt.1872 Tn
William Stepp, age 6, b.abt.1874 Tn
Adaline Stepp, age 2, b. abt.1878 SC
Barbara PATTON, age 61, mother, widow, b.SC

ADDITIONAL NOTE:: Suffrona PATTON and her family lived in Union Co, Ga, Fannin Co, Ga., Polk Co, Tn and Lumpkin Co.Ga. They worked in the mines. I believe she met and married a member of the Stepp family while living in Polk co.TN.( or possibly in Fannin Co while visiting sister Lydia who married a Rider from Fannin co.), , then moved to Lumpkin co, Ga.before or after she became a widow. The son James Stepp listed in the 1880 census may have been a stepson.
More info on Patton family obtained from Dale Patton as follows:
The Patton family came from the area around Buncombe Co, NC. traced back to abt.1805. By 1850, they were living in Union Co, Ga. listed in the 1850 census, household # 81, as follows:
William, Barbara( Barbary), & children
Lydia Ann
Suffrona, listed as age 3

In 1860 they are living in Polk Co, TN. census;
Household 1344 listed as follows:
Soffrona, age12

By 1870 they are all gone from Polk Co except for Suffrona's sister Lydia Patton who married James Rider from Fannin Co, Ga. She and her family are listed in the 1870 census. Later, she and her family are found in Pickens County, Ga. with a lot of other Riders. ( this happens to be the same area where Mary Catherine Stepp's husband James Jacob S. Jones was born and grew up.)

By 1880, Lydia is living near sister Suffrona ( Patton) Stepp in Dahlonega, Lumpkin Co, Ga. with her 2nd husband W. Abbercrombie.
As follows:
W. Abbercrombie, age 64, b.Ga. Carpenter
Lydia Abbercrombie, wife, age 50, b.NC, father b.NC & mother b. SC
Lucinda Rider, daughter, age 17, b. TN  at home
James H. Rider, son, age 17, b. TN, works in mines.

It's possible that Suffrona (Patton) Stepp also died young and that a family named
Rider finished raising her daughters Mary Catherine & Adaline and a family named Patton raised her youngest son William. This story was handed down and told by an elderly family member.
I have a copy of a delayed birth certificate from one of Mary Catherine ( Stepp) Jones sons that lists Mary's middle name as Ann. There is a  possibility that she had 2 middle names also, as was common in those days.
Somewhere in all this information is the ancestry of Mary Catherine Stepp. If anyone has any information to shed some light on this, please contact me by the email address found on the bottom of the main homepage. Thank you.

NOTE: This from the Dahlonega Signal seems to confirm Suffrona's early death.

William Jesse Stepp, Stepps & Lula are listed in the 1900 Cherokee Co, AL. census. &
The 1910 Cherokee Co, AL census
The parents of Lula ( Barnes) Stepp, E. Hood Barnes & wife Amanda N. Barnes are listed in the 1880 U.S. Census in Dawsonville, Dawson Co, Ga.
Some of the dates, birth, etc, of the children seem questionable.
